In the second One Day International (ODI) match of the 3-match series between India and Bangladesh, Virat Kohli did something that attracted a lot of attention on the social media. Virat Kohli, who scored 23 runs off 27 balls, blocked a “free-hit” delivery by Taskin Ahmed. Yes, you read it right. Virat Kohli played a very impressive looking “defensive” stroke on a delivery that was a free-hit.

This defense on a free-hit attracted many jokes on Twitter. The Cricket Lounge’s Vaibhav Sharma lists some of the most hilarious tweets on ‘Virat Kohli’s free-hit defense’.

India’s famous statistician Mohandas Menon started this trend by tweeting this:

What kind of defensive shot is that by Virat Kohli off a “free hit”…. amazing!#BanvInd

It was soon followed by a flurry of tweets!

Rohit Sharma said India need to be extra careful so Virat Kohli defended on a free hit. #BanvInd

Virat really did take “cautious” to a new level altogether!

Earlier, in the 4th over, Virat Kohli defended a free hit. Yes, really. Cautious start taken to next level.http://t.co/E4UMue8lqj #BANvIND

Some also gave it a new ‘conspiracy theory’ angel

Defensive shot of a “free-hit” by Virat Kohli.

That’s Kohli telling he won’t play until he gets the captaincy of ODIs too. #BanvInd
