England’s opening batsman Alex Hales has been ruled out for the remainder of ODI series and upcoming T20I series. Hales has been replaced by England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow. Jonny Bairstow, was already part of the ODI squad and will now remain in India till the end of the tour.

Alex Hales fractured his right hand while attempting a catch during the second ODI in Cuttack on Thursday, ruling himself out of the third ODI as well as the T20 series.

On the other hand, India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan also had an injury scare and he was rushed straight to the hospital after the team landed here for the third and final ODI against England on January 22.

According to sources, Shikhar Dhawan has some ‘issues’ on his left thumb. Dhawan had sustained a minor fracture after the second Test versus New Zealand in October.

“He went to consult in the radiology department and was there for more than an hour,” a local official said.

There has been no official statement on Dhawan’s injury but if the sources are to believed Ajinkya Rahane will replace him at the top of the order in the 3rd ODI against England on 22nd January.
