India vs New Zealand 2016: Gautam Gambhir fights his way back to India’s Test team

India vs New Zealand 2016: Gautam Gambhir fights his way back to India’s Test team

Gautam Gambhir played his last Test for India in 2014, in England. He was terribly out of form and fighting to retain his spot in the side. But, to his disappointment, he failed and his weak technique got exposed. He walked back to the pavilion with a very heavy heart.

2 years down the line, he has been once again called back to India’s Test squad and many believe this will be his last chance to redemption. Gambhir will replace KL Rahul, who picked hamstring in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur.

In between these two years (2014-2016), Gambhir tried hard at the domestic level to make his way back to Indian cricket team. Gambhir also gave good performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to a report published in ESPNcricinfo.com, a BCCI insider said Gambhir was tough to ignore in the current situation given his form and experience.

“Gambhir is definitely under consideration because he has been doing extremely well, and even the team management feels that with 12-13 Test matches coming up there needs to be some experience [at the top],” the official said.
