India vs New Zealand 2016: Gautam Gambhir likely to replace injured KL Rahul

Opener KL Rahul suffered a right hamstring in the first Test of the ongoing series between india and New Zealand. KL Rahul didn’t field in the second innings due to his hamstring and Shikhar Dhawan was used as a his substitute.

KL Rahul’s pain might turn out to be Gautam Gambhir’s gain.

While the Indian team management is sweating over Rahul’s fitness, coach Anil Kumble, according to sources, has asked for in-form Gambhir to be called in a backup opener for the second Test in Kolkata, starting September 30.

According to a report published in India Today, Gautam Gambhir is likely to undergo a fitness test at the National Cricket Association (NCA) in Bengaluru today. And if things go well there, he might make a comeback to Test cricket after 2 years.

Gambhir played his last Test for India at the Oval in 2014 where he only managed three runs in his two innings and since then he has been out of the Indian squad.
