Gautam Gambhir will make a comeback to Test cricket after 2 long years in the second Test of the ongoing series against New Zealand and India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

It’s going to be a very important as well as an emotional Test for Gambhir, as it will mark the beginning of a new innings for him. After Gautam Gambhir lost his form in the last 2013 and 2014 and he was dropped from all three forms, many thought that his career is over and now he won’t be able to make a comeback. But Gambhir tried hard at the domestic level and finally impressed the selectors for a place in India’s Test squad. Gambhir, who was not picked initially in the squad, will replace injured opener KL Rahul in the squad.

Gambhir, who played a crucial role for India in ICC World T20 2007 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, gathered a huge fan support with his good performances at the domestic level and Indian Premier League (IPL). Fans got behind him before the squad for the series against New Zealand was scheduled to get announced.

Gautam Gambhir, through his Twitter account, thanked BCCI and his fans for their support.

Nothing beats playing again for d country. Test cricket, whites, red ball and India cap again. Thanks @BCCI, thanks 2 all for d prayers.

Excitement of a debutant, certainty of experienced, nervousness of a novice…am feeling it all. Eden here I come loaded with ambitions.
