Reportedly, there was a disagreement between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli over Kohli’s demotion in the batting order. As per the reports, there was a disagreement between Dhoni and Kohli over Rahane’s promotion to no. 3 and Kohli’s demotion to no. 4 in the batting order, seems to have reflected on the team’s performance in the first ’ ODI against South Africa at Green Park in Kanpur.

Before the start of the match, MS Dhoni had stated that if Ajinkya Rahane will play, he will bat in top 3. Kohli, who has made the no. 3 position his own in ODIs, objected to his demotion and this led to a verbal spat between the captain and vice-captain.

However, MS Dhoni denied such rumours. But he took a veiled dig at Kohli in the post match conference.

“We lost momentum between overs 34-40 during the chase. We were positioned very well. But I felt around 35-40 overs we failed to get a move on. That would have made things easier,” said MS Dhoni in his post match conference after the 1st ODI in Kanpur.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli questioned the decision making process in the team.

“We have been doubtful in our decision making and that shows on the field. I don’t need to say this in an interview, cricket watchers and experts can watch that guys are not sure enough to express themselves properly,” said Vice captain.
