India vs West Indies 2014: some major talking points

Time For Virat Kohli To Get His Lost Form Back

After the forgettable tour of England, where Virat Kohli struggled to put bat to ball, Virat Kohli would be desperate to go out in the middle and score some runs. This home series against West Indies is the perfect opportunity for Virat Kohli to get his lost form back. Kohli is craving for runs and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he adds few more hundreds under his belt.

Golden Opportunity For Amit Mishra And Kuldeep Yadav

Amit Mishra is making a comeback to the side, while young Kuldeep Yadav might get his maiden ODI cap. This will be a golden opportunity for these two, as the World Cup 2015 is just round the corner. In the absence of Ravichnadran Ashwin for the first two ODIs, Amit Mishra might get an opportunity, as he bowled brilliantly in the last series against West Indies. On the other hand, it will be a great learning curve for Kuldeep Yadav. If he gets an opportunity, he will become the first chinaman from India to play at the international level.

Injuries, Ban and Boycott

First, West Indies’ star batsman Chris Gayle was ruled out due to an injury. Then, Sunil Narine was withdrawn by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). And now,  West Indies players are threatening to go on a strike and withdraw from the first ODI at Kochi. West Indies players last boycotted a series in 2009 when they, backed by WIPA, refused to play a home campaign against Bangladesh due to a previous contract dispute.

BATTLE: West Indies batsmen vs Indian bowlers

West Indies have a power-packed batting line-up. If the likes of Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo can give WI a solid platform at the top of the innings, it will allow the likes of Dwayne Bavo, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard to go slam-bang crazy towards the death.
