Indian veteran and CSK’s star batter Robin Uthappa left his fans stunned, on Wednesday, as he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after playing 20 years in the international and domestic circuits. The swashbuckling middle-order batter announced the news on social media.

On Wednesday, Robin Uthappa took to his social media and announced his decision to hung his boots from all forms of cricket. He wrote: “It has been my greatest honour to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,”

He added: “It’s been 20 years since I started playing professional cricket, and it has been the greatest honour to represent my country and state, Karnataka- wonderful journey of ups and downs; one that has been fulfilling, rewarding, enjoyable and has allowed me to grow as a human being. However, all good things must come to an end and with a grateful heart I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. While I will spend a signficant time with my young family, I look forward to charting a new phase in life,”

Uthappa had started his career with the ODI format, making his debut against England in Guwahati. His attacking approach had earned him a spot in India’s squad for the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, which was eventually won by the Indian cricket team. Uthappa went to represent India in 13 T20Is, where he mustered 249 runs at a strike rate of 118.01. He also went to feature in 46 ODIs, in which he amassed a total of 934 runs, with 86 being his highest score.

However, Uthappa’s career with the Men in Blue faded after a few years.  His last ODI appearance was back against Zimbabwe in 2015. His last appearance in the T20I format came against Zimbabwe in the same series. But Uthappa continued to ply his trade in the domestic level and in the Indian Premier League.

Meanwhile, after Robin announced his retirement social media was flooded with reactions from the fans. Check out the reactions of the fans:

Wondering how tough will it be for CSK when two players ( Uthappa and Rayadu) whom they have invested in the Mega auction despite their advanced age are already retired. Also Shivam Dube another middle order signing just isn’t good enough. Tough days ahead. https://t.co/2h3udH4qDI
