The Indian Cricketers’ Association has ‘strongly condemned’ the threatening message sent by a journalist to veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha. The issue came into the limelight after Saha shared a screenshot of the messages by a journalist on his official Twitter handle, wherein the journalist could be seen threatening the veteran cricketer for saying no to an interview.

Though, Saha took a strong stand against the journalist by revealing the texts but he didn’t reveal the name of the journalist, and the same created an uproar among the fans. Several cricketers and experts also took to social media and extended their support to the cricketer, while urging him to reveal the name of the journalist.

Now the Indian Cricketer’s Association has also come out in support of the keeper-batter.  As per the statement released by the ICA, the body has said that it welcomes the BCCI decision to investigate the Saha tweet matter and also requested to take strict action against the journalist. The statement further said that the media plays an important part in the growth of a player and a game and there are some lines that shouldn’t be crossed.

“We acknowledge the fact that the media plays a very important role both in the growth of our game and the players but there’s always a line that must never be crossed. What has happened in Saha’s case is totally unacceptable and we call for the respective press organisations too to take up the matter and ensure such things are not repeated,” ICA President Ashok Malhotra said in an official statement.

Meanwhile, Saha wishes to remain silent on the matter. Saha explained that his purpose was to expose the act on social media and not harm anyone’s career. Speaking to The Indian Express, he said:

“I haven’t received any communication from the BCCI yet. If they ask me to reveal the name (of the journalist), I would tell them it was never my intention to harm somebody’s career, to pull a person down. That’s why I didn’t reveal the name in my tweet. That’s not the teaching of my parents. The main purpose of my tweet was to expose the fact that there’s someone in the media who does such things, disrespecting a player’s wish,”
