The Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team created history on Tuesday as they completed the highest successful run chase against Sri Lanka in the history of the World Cup. Pakistan defeated the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team by 6 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Tuesday, October 10.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in the game. The decision turned out to be terrific for the side as three of the top four batters gave amazing performances.

While Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama smashed sensational centuries, Pathum Nissanka hit a terrific half-century. Though, Sri Lanka started off on a poor note as they lost opener Kusal Perera was dismissed in the second over for a duck. However, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis stabilized the innings with their 102-run partnership in just 95 balls. The duo stitched 111 runs off just 69 balls to frustrate the Pakistani bowlers. The keeper-batter Mendis got out after smashing the fastest century for Sri Lanka in the World Cup hero.

Later on, chasing a target in the game, Pakistan were off to a poor start as well as they lost Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam got out for low scores. However, Mohammad Rizwan showed great temperament and built a terrific 176-run partnership with Abdullah Shafique and together they pushed the Lankan Team into the back seat.

Rizwan remained unbeaten and smashed 131 runs off 121 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He took his time to the finish line.
