India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma has added another feather in his already glorious cap as he becomes the fastest Asian opener to score a 1000-run mark in Test cricket. He achieved this milestone on Day 2 of the ongoing 4th and the last Test match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Rohit surpassed his teammate Mayank Agarwal who achieved this milestone in December 2020 in 19 innings. Rohit has moved up to the third spot in the all-time list of the openers who have scored 1000-runs. Rohit and South Africa skipper Graeme Smith is at the same position on the list. Only Herbert Sutcliffe and Len Hutton are two of the fastest openers to have achieved this feat in 13 and 16 innings, respectively.

Rohit has also become the fastest Asian to score 1000 runs in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Though Rohit is regarded as a modern day legend in the shortest formats of the game. He has played only 38 Test (including the 4th Test) matches for India, compared to the 224 ODIs and 108 T20Is he has played. In his first two innings, Rohit scored 176 and 127 as Indian opener and in the very same series, he scored a double century in Ranchi and has since been India’s top-choice for the opening slot.
