IPL AUCTION

IPL 10: Ben Stokes will have to give £100,000 penalty to ECB for playing in IPL 2017

Every England player will have to give £3,500 (around 2,97,000 INR) per day from their central contract to England and Wales Cricket Board for participating in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 10).

England’s swashbuckling all-rounder Ben Stokes is one of the most ‘chased’ cricketers ahead of the IPL 2017 auction. Stokes’ good all-round show throughout England’s tour of India has attracted many eyeballs and many cricket pundits believe that he will be a big hit in this year’s IPL auction. According to The Telegraph, star all-rounder Ben Stokes may have to give more than £100,000 (around INR 8,488,100) for participating in IPL 10.

Ben Stokes has set his base price at £238,000 (around INR 20,201,600), and already many franchises have shown interest in him. India’s captain Virat Kohli also said that Ben Stokes will be a great addition to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s side if they manage to get in the auction. However, if Ben Stokes is sold only at his base price in IPL 10 auction, he stands to lose more than half of the amount to ECB, tax and other fees.

Earlier, Stokes had said that IPL is a great chance for English players to go ahead and experience what it feels like to play for a different T20 side outside England.

“This year’s IPL is a chance, not just for myself, but a few of the other English guys to go ahead and experience what it’s like. Get a different side of T20 cricket, rather than just play in England. I won’t say I am lucky, but in terms of the English summer, it is quite hard to get away and go and experience what it is like to play in these foreign T20 leagues.”
