Rising Pune Supergiants’ Faf du Plessis became the eighth player to be ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 due to injuries, with more than fifty per cent of the matches still left in the tournament. We have not even reached the halfway mark and 8 players have been ruled. Faf’s injury came as a double-blow for Rising Pune Supergiants as their star batsman Kevin Pietersen was also ruled out due to an injury last week. The Cricket Lounge’s Vaibhav Sharma lists all the 8 players who have been ruled out of IPL 9.

1) Lendl Simmons (Mumbai Indians)

Lendl Simmons was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury to his lower back.

2) Samuel Badree (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Samuel Badree suffered a shoulder injury during fielding in the World T20 2016 final against England and never played a game after that. Badree was replaced by Chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi.

3) Joel Paris ( Delhi Daredevils)

Joel Paris was picked Delhi Daredevils for INR 30 lakh. Unfortunately, Joel Paris was ruled out of IPL 2016 even before their first game due to shin injury.

4) Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians)

One of the best T20 bowlers in world cricket, Lasith Malinga, even before the first match, was declared Malinga unfit for the next four months due to knee injury by Mumbai Indians’ (MI’s) medical team.

5) John Hastings (Kolkata Knight Riders)

The Australian has flown back home due to an ankle injury.

6) Mitchell Starc (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Mitchell Starc injured his ankle during Australia’s maiden day-night Test against New Zealand in November 2015. It led to a surgery and a lengthy recovery followed it.

7) Kevin Pietersen (Rising Pune Supergiants)

Kevin Pietersen injured his right calf after facing just one ball against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

8) Faf du Plessis (Rising Pune Supergiants)

Faf du Plessis fractured his finger during the match against SunRisers Hyderabad. Faf will be out of action for 6 weeks.
