IPL 2017: Irfan Pathan can be a good replacement for Mitchell Marsh

Australia’s all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out for 9 months after exaggerating his shoulder injury. Marsh played in the second Test of the ongoing series between India and Australia but he was ruled out later after the Test. He now faces the prospect of a shoulder reconstruction that would keep him out of the game for the remainder of 2017.

Australia’s physiotherapist David Beakley had said, “Mitchell has been playing with a shoulder injury for most of the summer,”. “We have been managing (it) up until now but unfortunately it has progressively deteriorated to a point where he is unable to function at the level required.”

Mitchell Marsh’s injury has come as a big blow for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise and they would now be looking for a suitable replacement before the start of the season. Now, looking at all the available options for Rising Pune Supergiants, India’s out of favour all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who played for them in the last season, can be a good replacement for Marsh.

Pune already have a good all-rounder in the form of Ben Stokes and ideally, they would want to replacement Marsh with a all-rounder. Pathan’s exclusion from IPL 2017 came as a big surprise for him and his fans, but Marsh’s injury might just bring him back in contention.

Last year, Pathan played only a couple of matches for Pune and he was made to sit on the bench for the major part of the tournament. Pathan has done well in the domestic season for his state and zone. He has been an all-rounder performer, specially in the Syed Mushtaq and Vijay Hazare trophy.
