Rohit Sharma Backs The Idea Of Playing IPL 2020 Behind Closed Doors

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma recently appeared on India Today’s E-Conclave 2020 and spoke about the possibilities of playing IPL 2020 behind the close doors.

After the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus, the thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has been indefinitely postponed as there is no way cricket can be played amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Some cricket pundits and broadcasters have said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should consider the idea of playing IPL 2020 behind closed doors and the fans will get to see their favorite teams and stars on only their television screens.

Talking about the same idea, Rohit Sharma said it will be strange to play in the empty stadiums and the cricketers will go back to their initial days when nobody used to watch them.

“It will be a little strange to play in the empty stadiums. I don’t know how the fans will take it. As a kid, I have to go back a long way and think about how I started playing cricket with nobody watching me. We didn’t have the luxury of playing in these luxurious stadiums, I think life will go back to that,” Rohit was quoted as saying in India Today’s E-Conclave 2020.

However, he also added that people will be able to watch IPL 2020 on television and there would be something to look forward to.

“Whatever rules the board comes up with, we need to follow that and try and play some sort of cricket. People will be able to watch us on television. At least, there is something to look forward to,” the 33-year-old said.

“Yeah, once they open up the stadium, they open the fixtures for us to play, only then we will get to know how it’s going to be planned out. From what I gather is, less movement and staying in one particular area is very important,” Rohit added.
