Ever since the last season of Indian Premier League, there were speculations about the future of the Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin in IPL, all thanks to his not so impressive performance in the last season.
Putting end to all the speculations, on Thursday, Kings XI Punjab traded Ravichandran Ashwin to Delhi Capitals for Rs. 1.5 crores and for Jagadeesha Suchhit. The left-arm spinner who also happens to be a handy lower-order batsman as bought in as the replacement in IPL 2018 at his base price of INR 20 lakh.
KXIP had also asked for Trent Bolt, the New Zealand pacer, however, that deal could not go through for some reason. Talking about the deal, Ness Wadia, the co-owner of KXIP told PTI:
“Everyone is happy with this deal. We are happy, Ashwin is happy and Delhi is happy. We were in talks with three teams but have finally come to this conclusion. We wish Ashwin the very best,”
Ravichandran Ashwin will be paid a whopping Rs. 7.6 crore, which is his auction value by Delhi Capitals. The official announcement of this lucrative deal is expected to be made soon.
Under the leadership of Ashwin, KXIP played well in the first half of the past two years, however, they lost their steam in the second halves. KXIP finished seventh in 2018 and sixth in 2019.
