Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting garnered every cricket fan’s attention yesterday with a cheeky comment on Ravichandran Ashwin. The Delhi-based franchise managed to gain Ashwin’s services in the trade window this year. However, Ponting warned Ashwin that the tactics that he used at Kings XI Punjab will not work this year in Delhi.
In case you did not know, Ravichandran Ashwin had ‘Mankaded’ Jos Buttler in the match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals in last year’s IPL. This incident became a massive talking point in the cricket world because the English players came out in support of their compatriot and questioned Ashwin’s spirit of cricket.
On the other hand, the off-spinner believed that he had not done anything wrong. In fact, the rule book of cricket favored his bold decision to run out Buttler while he was outside his crease at the nonstriker’s end. This year, Ashwin has moved to Delhi Capitals, new management awaits him and his coach has already warned him before his departure for IPL 2020.
Delhi Capitals were extremely active in the trade window ahead of the upcoming season. They managed to sign some big names of Indian cricket like Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin. Even though they had to trade Trent Boult, Mayank Markande, and Rahul Tewatia out of the team, Delhi might be extremely satisfied with their work in the trade window.
Ashwin has already received a warning from coach Ponting and his wife took a jibe at that statement with her latest tweet. Here’s what Prithi Ashwin wrote:
She indirectly tagged Jos Buttler and referred to that incident of IPL 2019. Prithi said that her time with Ashwin had run out just like Jos Buttler.
