IPL 2020: SWOT Analysis Of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SWOT Analysis Of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH): Many teams were active on the IPL Player Auction which was held on 19th December last year, but the team which was the least active was the Sunrisers Hyderabad. To be honest, they had most of their team ready and so they didn’t want a lot of players. They didn’t bid for a single player in the marquee round but picked up a few cheap buys towards the end of the auction.

If you have a look at their overall squad then it seems to be a really good one. They have their usual gun players in David Warner, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and for their support, they have some top-class players.

Last season, SRH fell off a cliff after Warner and Bairstow left the league earlier. It would be interesting to see whether they can go a step further this time. So, let’s have a look at the SWOT Analysis of their squad for the 2020 season.

IPL 2020: SWOT Analysis Of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Strengths:

SRH’s strength remains in its solid top-order and a really good bowling attack. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow form the best possible opening combination with Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson to follow. The top-order did the bulk of the scoring last year and that might be the case this year as well.

If you have a look at their bowlers then it seems as if they have a full factory of Indian pacers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed will be their main weapons along with the likes of Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, Basil Thampi and T Natarajan. They have the best leg-spinner in the shortest format – Rashid Khan whose four overs can be locked in for each game.

Weaknesses:

Just like last year, the weaknesses for the SRH team will be their middle-order and finishers. They left out Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan to get some new players. They have bought the likes of Priyam Garg and Virat Singh who are very young and haven’t been tested at this level.

Vijay Shankar who is one of the talks of the town last season seems to be out of form. They don’t have a proper finisher in their squad so that job might be given to Rashid Khan but he is a bit miss and hit with his batting.

Opportunities:

The youngsters like Priyam Garg and Virat Singh who have been picked up in the auction will get plenty of opportunities to showcase their skills because SRH doesn’t have any other options in the middle-overs.

Players like Vijay Shankar and Khaleel Ahmed who still have an outside chance of making the T20 World squad should look at the IPL as a big opportunity.

Threats:

SRH has taken a punt by picking by youngsters like Priyam Garg and Virat Singh, who haven’t played at this level. Sometimes these young batsmen find it difficult to play in such high-pressure situations. If the experiment doesn’t work out then SRH will be facing the same problem as last year.

Another big threat for the SRH team is other than Rashid Khan there aren’t any notable spinners in their team. Shahbaz Nadeem isn’t a T20 bowler and Abhishek Sharma is still young and he doesn’t bowl that much. They have picked up Fabian Allen but won’t be able to fit him in the XI because their four overseas slots are fixed.

SRH will be in trouble when they play on slow pitches like the one in Chennai and Delhi.
