IPL 2020: “Virat Kohli backed wrong players”- RCB Coach Makes a Bold Claim

Former RCB coach Ray Jennings believes that Virat Kohli sometimes backed the wrong players at RCB and their thoughts did not match regarding some players playing in specific positions. However, he also believes that Virat Kohli has matured a lot as a player and it will not take long for him to win an IPL title.
Virat Kohli reached the final with RCB thrice, in 2009, 2011 and 2016 but failed to win even once. He is still chasing that elusive IPL title and Jennings believes that if he backs the right players to do well, he will surely win the title sooner rather than later.
“If I have to look back then I would say that in IPL there used to be 25-30 players (in the squad) and it was the coach’s duty to look after all the players. Sometimes he was a bit of a loner in the team. Sometimes, he backed the wrong players. But, you can’t blame him for that. I wanted certain players to bowl or bat in certain conditions/situations but he had different ideas,” Jennings told Cricket.com.

The best of Virat Kohli is yet to come: Jennings

Ray Jennings has been impressed with the way Virat Kohli has matured as a skipper and the way he has taken his fitness regime seriously in order to raise his game to the next level. Jennings believes that he is a very quick learner and has grown as a skipper, Jennings believes that RCB will soon end their wait under Virat Kohli to win their maiden IPL title.
“Virat Kohli has always been an unbelievable cricket brain. He sets very high standards (for himself) and we went along despite one or two problems. You needed somebody around Virat to guide him (at that point in time). Of course, he and I bumped a few times but he is a good guy and a very quick learner. Nice to see him grow as a player and now as a captain. His mannerism is great. His best is yet to come,” Jennings said.
