IPL 2020: Will Mumbai Indians Feature Trent Boult In Their Playing XI?

The countdown to the world’s largest cricket league has begun and the player transfers are going on currently. However, the best deal has been done by one of the most dominant teams in the Indian premier league Mumbai Indians. The team has successfully taken away Trent boult from the Delhi franchise in the IPL auction 2020 transfer window. The New Zealand player will now be a part of the Mumbai Indians and will sport the next season of the Indian premier league in a blue jersey. However, there is a big question in the minds of the fans of the Mumbai Indians regarding whether or not Trent Boult feature in the playing XI of the Mumbai Indians squad.

It is a well-known fact that Trent is one of the best bowlers that New Zealand ever produced and he will never miss a spot in any Dream11 prediction that is made for a T20 international match. However, the things about the Indian premier league do not work that simple. It is a long and tiring tournament and they can try different combinations of bowlers as well due to the limitation of having only four foreign players in the playing XI squad — all the foreign players are not going to be bowlers for sure.

The managers at Mumbai Indians would surely have looked at this side of the story while betting on Trent Boult who was not so promising in the last season of the Indian premier league while playing for the Delhi Capitals. He had managed to take only 5 wickets in 5 matches, which was a little low as per his standards of bowling. This might have been the reason that Delhi Capitals decided to let go of him so easily. He had played all the 14 matches of the franchise in the 2018 season and had taken 18 wickets.

In the 2017 season of the league, Trent was a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders and had proved his worth in the tournament. He had played only 6 matches and bagged 5 wickets for his team maintaining his consistency in the tournament. He has been a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and had taken one wicket in the only match he played that season — he has been a consistent performer over the years.

Also, looking at the T20 International records of Trent Boult, it does not seem that sane team management would spend huge money on him to make him sit on the benches the entire season. He has taken 39 wickets in the 27 T20 Internationals that he has played for his national team with his best bowling figures being 4/34. In his last T20I match against England, he took 2 wickets and took 18 wickets in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England. He is in a great form even at 30 and certainly, Mumbai Indians want to make the best use of him — that’s the reason they have taken him.
