RCB vs RR: The dream for one was shattered again, but for the other it was fulfilled. Rajasthan Royals entered only their second IPL final – having won the first one in 2008 under the late Shane Warner – while the Royal Challengers Bangalore once again see their wish of a maiden, elusive title fade away.
Jos Buttler’s maverick innings – 106* runs off 60 balls – in what has been a maverick season – 824 runs with 4 centuries and 4 fifties – against Faf du Plessis’ side helped the Royals to a comfortable 7-wicket win as they chased down the target of 158 with 11 balls to spare.
Buttler clattered 10 fours and 6 sixes in what was virtually a one-man show with the next highest score by a RR batsman being 23.
Before that, it was the RR bowlers who had put their side ahead by the halfway stage of the game by restricting RCB to a below-par total of 157. Using the seam movement in the Ahmedabad pitch and the bounce he can generate with his height, Prasidh Krishna returned with enviable figures of 3/22 which included the wickets of Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Krishna had Kohli edging a short ball to Samson in his first over. He then hurt RCB where it will hurt by having Karthik, RCB’s best batsman this season and arguably the best finisher of the tournament, caught at long-on, before yorking out Hasaranga.
When Chahal and Ashwin had unremarkable days with the ball, Obed McCoy and Trent Boult provided the lid on the scoring rate and also chipped in with four wickets combined after the powerplay in RCB’s innings.
14 long years later…
Coming for you.

In the Final on Sunday, RR will now take on Gujarat Titans against whom they lost in the Qualifier 1. But now they are coming off a more complete and rounded performance. Apart from a rampant, uncompromising Titans team, RR will also have to deal with 1 lakh and more fans cheering for their home team in Ahmedabad.
With RCB’s loss and another knockout, and another season without the IPL trophy, memes were bound to flood Twitter.
Here are some of the most hilarious memes for RCB-RR match:
