DC vs PBKS: There had been a lot going on for Delhi Capitals in the past few days. After losing to RCB, when their bowlers conceded 189 despite having the opposition to ropes at 92/5, covid-19 struck the DC camp down with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, followed by Tim Seifert returning positive for the virus. Their trip to Pune got cancelled and the match was shifted to Mumbai.
With still all this in mind, skipper Rishabh Pant stressed that his players are “not going to think about it” and urged that “we will find strength among ourselves”. But it’s difficult to not think about the situation with two players and four other members of the support staff are already down with covid.

With all the motivation they can take from head coach Ricky Ponting, they turned up to face Punjab Kings with three overseas players in the eleven. It was a desired start and what DC needed was a little bit of luck to go their way when Pant won the toss and inserted Punjab to bat first.
But Punjab got off to a brisk start with Mayank Agarwal taking the onus to attack the DC pacers with PBKS racing to 27 in the first three overs. However, once again DC got the better of the fortunes as Shikhar Dhawan was out to a nothing delivery down the leg-side from Lalit Yadav, caught superbly by Pant. The tide turned as in the next over, Mustafizur dismissed Agarwal with a chop on.
Jonny Bairstow made his intentions clear with a couple of boundaries but soon found the fine leg fielder off the bowling of Khaleel Ahmed. Axar Patel smartly duped the in-form Liam Livingstone for a stumping dismissal.
Youngster Jitesh Sharma held Punjab’s innings with 32 off 23 balls before getting trapped lbw by Axar Patel. Shahrukh Khan tried to get himself in but couldn’t get his timing right against the Delhi spinners and threw away his wicket to Khaleel. Kuldeep continued his brilliant return to form, castling a couple of tailenders.
The Capitals spinners – Lalit, Axar, and Kuldeep – shared 6 wickets between them. Such was the plight of the PBKS batters today, that it was Rahul Chahar who hit the first and only six of Punjab’s innings. The DC bowlers smartly busted open the batting firepower of PBKS as Agarwal’s side succumbed to the lowest innings total -115- of IPL 2022.
Any hopes of a Punjab miracle were quashed away sooner than Agarwal could ring in bowling changes as Prithvi Shaw and David Warner hammered 58 runs from the first four overs – bowled two each by Vaibhav Arora and Kagiso Rabada. The Capitals chased down this in just 10.3 overs with 9 wickets in hand courtesy of a 39-ball 83-run opening stand between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner.
Such was the size of victory by DC that PBKS’ net run rate has plummetted to half-a-negative while DC’s jumped to +0.942 – the best in the tournament at the moment.
The Delhi Capitals were hailed by everyone for their terrific all-round performance, especially under the circumstances. DC co-owner Parth Jindal led the way with laudatory tweets for his franchise.
Here are some of the best reactions to DC’s thumping 9-wicket win over PBKS:
Amazed, awe struck and have nothing but respect for this special bunch – come on @DelhiCapitals let’s win this for all who love this team. I salute each and everyone of you
