IPL 2022: Can Dinesh Karthik Be Chosen For The T20 World Cup 2022?

Dinesh Karthik has emerged as one of the best strikers of IPL 2022 already as he bailed out RCB on two major occasions when the situations got tricky and dangerous at the same time. It wasn’t particularly easy but this was a glimpse of the vintage DK that have known in his initial days as a T20 cricketer.

Dinesh Karthik has shown some extraordinary talent and can be an absolute game-changer for the Challengers if he continues with this kind of cricketing form. He is a firm striker of the ball and given his hard-striking ability, he houses the potential of simply ravaging the bowlers.

Now here lies another tricky question here. Even though it may sound outrageous, can it be a possibility that Dinesh Karthik can be chosen for one more T20 World Cup? It isn’t what it seems like and definitely, age is not on his side.

However, the role that RCB has shouldered Dinesh Karthik with is more of a finisher who would come out at the fag end of the pecking order and will go on with his mindless hitting. Ideally, everything goes to plan, this should be the position for Hardik Pandya. But the recent exploits of the former Mumbai Indians player haven’t been as rambunctious as one wants them to be.

Now, this leaves a glaring question on the cards that say who’s next? The answer is Venkatesh Iyer. However, his numbers outside India have been straight down the drain. More importantly, he is more confident as an opener than in the middle order. This begs the question, who finally makes the cut for the number 7 position.

Given the wide pool of talent that India has now, there won’t be any dearth whatsoever but Dinesh Karthik is not new to all these big events. He has tremendous experience and he actually houses the ability to turn the starts into finishes.

Also, Dinesh Karthik is a proven wicket-keeper and his numbers in IPL are equally brilliant as he is in the second spot after MS Dhoni. In case India decides to pick him in place of Pant who has been pretty inconsistent, that means they can still play an added all-rounder, especially Venky Iyer, and can actually give him more time to settle down before he decides to hammer home the maximums.

There is a still long way to go but it is important that India keeps an open mind because this can very well be the final T20 World Cup for a couple of big names in the hut and they would like to finish this on a high.
