Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally found a replacement for New Zealand pacer Adam Milne in the ongoing 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. For the unversed, Adam Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and he was ruled out of the rest of the tournament.
CSK has signed young medium pacer Matheesha Pathirana as Milne’s replacement. Matheesha Pathirana is a 19-year-old young talented medium pacer, who was a part of the U19 World Cup for Sri Lanka in the 2020 and 2022 editions.
Though, Matheesha has featured for Sri Lanka in only four matches but he impressed one and all with his terrific bowling skills, as he picked seven wickets at an average of 27.28 while returning an economy rate of 6.16.
Matheesha is famous for his slinging action just like the Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga. It was in 2019 when a video of him went insanely viral on social media, where he was seen doing the Lasith Malinga-like action. Because of the same, he is fondly called ‘Junior Lasith Malinga’. It has to be noted that Matheesa has played in only one List A game and 2 T20 matches.
CSK had roped him as the reserve player ahead of the 2021 season and now they have managed to get him as the replacement of Adam Milne.
“He will join CSK at the price of Rs 20 lakh,” the IPL said in a statement. CSK via their official Twitter handle also welcomed Matheesha in their Yellow army. CSK wrote:
“Welcome Matheesha Pathirana, the young pace into the SuperFam”
