We have heard nicknames such as “JosTheBoss” and “UniverseJos” for Jos Buttler. But, respected commentator Harsha Bhogle came up with another nickname for Jos Buttler: “T20 giant” he reckons is the England and Rajasthan Royals cricketer.
While Buttler has been dropped from the Test team and plays the role of a finisher in ODI cricket, his promotion to the top of the order in T20 cricket – for England and for RR – has been a great decision as the right-hander has become one of the most fearsome short format openers in the world.
Harsha Bhogle came up with an interesting tweet – in which he termed Buttler as a “T20 giant” – following Buttler’s century against Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Buttler rocked up the first century of IPL 2022 as he took a heavy toll on the MI bowlers. The opener smashed 100 runs off 68 balls, his innings included 11 fours and 5 gigantic sixes, helping RR to a sizeable total of 193.
Bhogle reckons Buttler is not considered as a T20 behemoth yet.
“Top player, top innings. Doesn’t get talked about as a T20 giant as much as he should,” Bhogle tweeted.

For his innings, the English opener had a conscious plan: to see off Bumrah, who has had the wood over him in the past, while tee off against others.
Against Jasprit Bumrah, Buttler scored 11 runs off 15 balls; Bumrah did manage to bowl him with a yorker, but a little 100 runs late. Against others, the opener smashed 89 runs off 53 balls. His thwacking included mauling young Basil Thampi for 3 sixes and 2 fours in an over; Thampi didn’t bowl more than one over in the game.
His innings finally ended with a searing, pinpoint yorker from Bumrah. But, by then, Buttler had put RR in a commanding position.
