IPL 2022: Harsha Bhogle Has Made A Special Request To Dale Steyn

Renowned cricket commentator and broadcaster Harsha Bhogle has requested legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, who is Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s bowling coach, to mentor young Indian pace sensation Umran Malik.

Malik caught the eye of everyone last year in his debut IPL season for SRH where he consistently clocked 150 KPH – he sent down the fastest delivery ever by an Indian in the IPL of 152.954 KPH. The 22-year-old played three games last year, picking up two wickets, and was retained by SRH for 4 crore ahead of IPL 2022, when they also roped in Dale Steyn as fast bowling coach.

The speedster started off the IPL 2022 in stunning fashion picking up a couple of scalps against Rajasthan Royals, dismissing top-order batters Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal in a fiery spell.

However, Malik didn’t have a great second game, against Lucknow Super Giants, on Monday, as he conceded 39 runs in three overs. Malik erred on not changing his pace as the pitch was a bit sticky and slower balls were more effective on it.

Yes, it’s a great sign that Malik is looking to bowl regularly at a high pace – his average speed was around 145 KPH – however, he should also learn to bowl the slower deliveries that will help him deceive the batter who’d be expecting only the faster ones.

Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to plead with Dale Steyn to teach him some of his tricks as the youngster is a great asset to Indian cricket and fast bowling lovers.

“Hey @DaleSteyn62, can’t think of anyone better than you to mentor a young kid like #UmranMalik who runs in hard and bowls seriously quick. My friends in Hyderabad will volunteer many fine biryanis in return! Cheers,” Bhogle tweeted.
