IPL 2022: Here’s Why Mumbai Indians Are Almost Out Of The Play-Offs

The five-time champions of the extravagant IPL, Mumbai Indians have had the worst start to their IPL campaign as they lost their fifth game in a row, a record worse than the opening edition of the tournament where they started the fray with four consecutive defeats. And now it is almost impossible for them to make it to the IPL 2022 play-offs.

It has been a nosedive into madness for Mumbai Indians as they have simply lacked the sting that is required to make a team click at the biggest stages of franchise cricket, especially when the entire world is watching.

Suryakumar Yadav

There are multiple questions that have been asked about Mumbai’s woeful display in the ongoing edition of the tournament and the answers are simply non-existent. Is it a muck-up of an individual that has marred their campaign or the entire team has missed out on what should have been the ideal starting eleven for the latest edition of the tournament.

First and foremost, the most successful team of the tournament broke their bank for a player who won’t be playing in the latest edition of the fray, Jofra Archer. In an attempt to get the Englishman and bolster their bowling ranks for the ages to come, they ended up missing out on bowlers who could salvage their current campaign.

Secondly, except for Jasprit Bumrah they didn’t hire the services of any other experienced bowler who can make the bowling look decent. Sadly, for Mumbai, even Bumrah has failed to deliver the goods and now they are staring at a bleak and cold future.

Thirdly, their batting order lacks a proper balance and that is the primary reason for a topsy-turvy start to their campaign. Somehow, Rohit Sharma has failed to bring out the best knocks and his chemistry with Ishan Kishan seems to be at an all-time low as the runs find themselves pretty hard to come by.

Barring Dewald Brevis and Suryakumar Yadav, the remainder of the team has seen too shaky and Kieron Pollard has just been filling the numbers, an aspect that will be worrying Mumbai lineup for a major part of the tournament.

Now it is hard to travel back in time and get back their lost war horses. The most viable option will always be to make the proper use of their ongoing resources. They will have to find the perfect chemistry in the batting lineup.

Ishan Kishan has somehow seen completely out of the destructive form that we have always known him for. He is taking it much slower than his usual tempo which is already off-setting the calculations of the Mumbai Indians.

Another major change will need them to make good use of the young bowlers who can actually come in handy with their decent cameos, especially in places where the big names have been belted mercilessly. It is important that Mumbai spots the local talents to get their campaign in shape.

The final factor that must be taken into consideration is Rohit Sharma will have to bring himself back in shape. The franchise is heavily reliant on him to deliver and unless the Hitman can get his campaign back on track, life will be a living nightmare for the Indians.
