Gujarat Titans have been a reckoning force in the ongoing edition of the tournament and they added another emphatic win to their tally to clinch the top of the points table with seven wins from eight matches. Alongside Rashid Khan it was Rahul Tewatia who made the impossible happen.

Despite Umran Malik stealing the show with figures of 5 for 25, it was Rahul Tewatia who combined with Rashid Khan to stitch together 55 runs from just overs and win the game for the Titans. However, the cricket-crazy fans have always been vocal about numbers and very rarely have talked about impact.

Today’s knock from Tewatia was one such dance of madness that saw him taking the reins of destruction upon him and blowing the Sunrisers to oblivion with a very specially carved knock. It wasn’t the big numbers that would shake up the nation but it was the echo of destruction that would leave the Sunrisers reeling in agony.

Tewatia has been a very underrated player to date despite the southpaw’s rare gems. From taking down Sheldon Cottrell in an emphatic display of power-hitting to stitching together the all-important knock in tonight’s game, it has been a roller-coaster journey for the all-rounder.

More importantly, he comes with the designated role of a finisher, a very rare breed and yet an extremely important brand of cricketer that can totally change the complexion of the games like today. However, given his arrival at number 6 or 7, it is hardly possible that he would have humongous numbers next to his name.

For a finisher, it is more important to give the shape to the innings that it deserves because in a game of cricket where momentum is of the utmost essence, if you lose your plot in the end, no matter how big of a score you are defending or chasing, the result may not favour you.

Tewatia won’t always give you the half-centuries and centuries, the 500s and the 600s but he will help you to win. He will help you to get the much-needed momentum even in the darkest of times and that is why is he extremely important to a cricketing side in the shortest format of the games.
