Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop eulogized on young pace sensation Umran Malik’s attributes and what he brings to the table as a raw, tearaway fast bowler.
Malik made his IPL debut last season for SRH and broke the record for the fastest ball by an Indian, clocking 153 KPH. He touched the same speeds this season as well and has shown marked improvements in his game from last year, however, he had been erratic with his lines and lengths in his first four games and fans felt he isn’t being able to control his pace.

On Friday, again, versus Kolkata Knight Riders, Malik was expensive in his first over, leaking 9 runs. However, he got into his groove after that and made everyone once again take attention to him.
In his second over, he rattled KKR captain Shreyas Iyer with high-pace and quality short pitch bowling before castling him with a searing yorker. In his third, although he got dispatched for a couple of sixes, Malik returned strongly bouncing out Sheldon Jackson.
And then came his fourth over that got everyone talking. Young 22-year-old pacer to Andre Russell in good form. This was Malik’s big test, and he came out with flying colours as he conceded just two runs to Russell and delivered five dot balls! Low full toss, bouncer, hard lengths, the line outside off – Malik didn’t escape Russell; he got him late on his shots and had all but his wicket. He registered his best bowling figures this season, 2/27.
Ian Bishop lauded Umran Malik’s bowling today, saying that this was just a glimpse of what is to come from the J&K speedster.
“Nice that Umran Malik showed a glimpse of what he is capable of tonight. There will be indifferent days ahead in this volatile format. But he showed what he can be if given time,” Ian Bishop tweeted.
