IPL 2022: Jasprit Bumrah Gave A Fitting Reply To His Critics

Going into the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Jasprit Bumrah had been having his worst IPL season since 2015: he’d managed only 5 wickets in 10 matches at an enormous bowling average of 60!

Against the Knight Riders, Bumrah proved once again that form is temporary and class is permanent: starting off with the dismissal of Andre Russell, the MI spearhead pacer bagged his maiden IPL five-wicket haul, and finished with stunning figures of 4-1-10-5 – the second-best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in the IPL after Anil Kumble’s 5/5.

Bumrah admitted that because of his underwhelming bowling numbers until the KKR game, there had been a “lot of noise outside” against him. But he didn’t let any of it affect his mindset of bowling processes.

Shooting straight at his critics on social media and all kinds of experts, Jasprit Bumrah said that people need to “understand the game” and “observe what’s going on” before making statements on cricketers; he asserted that he was happy with his bowling processes even when wickets deserted him.

“Look we prepare for the tournament and we have our process, we don’t look at the end result. If you understand the game, you have to really observe what’s going on, what is the game like, what situation you are bowling like, and for me personally, I was very happy with the rhythm going on throughout the tournament,” said Bumrah in the post-match press conference.

“I know there is a lot of noise outside that goes on but it doesn’t really affect me. Because I am not a person who judges my performance on what others think or what the experts are saying or whatever people want to say,” he added.

Bumrah’s historic efforts, which helped MI restrict KKR to 165, went in vain as Mumbai lost the game by a shocking margin of 52 runs. Only one MI batter scored beyond 20 – 51 by Ishan Kishan – as they were bowled out for 113 inside 18 overs.

KKR now have pushed themselves at number 7 in the points table with 10 points in 12 games and they remain alive in the playoff race.
