Veteran Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has given his ratings to the top leg-spinners based on their performances in the IPL 2022 so far.

Without any surprise, Piyush Chawla rated Yuzvendra Chahal as the best leg-spinner so far handing him 9.5 points out of 10.

The Rajasthan Royals spinner is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 19 scalps in 9 matches, taken at a brilliant average of 13 and an economy of 7.22.

“I’ll give him 9.5 because the way he’s bowling – he’s bowling the difficult overs, he’s not bowling that much in power-play, but he’s bowling even in the slog [where] he’s turned the game around,” Piyush Chawla said while speaking with ESPNcricinfo.

Another bowler who is having a renaissance is Kuldeep Yadav, the chinaman who has lost his place in the Indian side and his former IPL franchise, KKR, in the past couple of seasons is now the just behind Chahal with 17 wickets in 8 matches, taken at an enviable average of 14 and an economy of 8. Kuldeep has been the Man of the Match in all four Delhi Capitals’ victories.

Giving Kuldeep 9 points, Chawla said, “9 points because the way he bowled – except for a couple of game where he went for few runs – he’s bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament.”

Piyush Chawla, who took 157 IPL wickets and is the fifth leading IPL wicket-taker, was impressed by young Ravi Bishnoi’s performances at the start of the season but observed the youngster being inconsistent.

Bishnoi has taken 7 wickets in 9 matches, his bowling average being a poor 41! Giving Bishnoi only 6 points, Chawla explained:

“Because the way he started, he started off pretty decently butt after that he’s looked totally off radar.”

Finally, the last leg-spinner on the list is Rahul Chahar, who is Punjab Kings’ second-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps in 9 matches while bowling tightly conceding at 7.58 runs per over. Chahar got 7 rating points from Chawla who had a mixed reaction to the leg-spinners’ performances so far: “He has bowled well – but sometimes he bowled well, sometimes he bowled okay, sometimes badly.”
