IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri Made A Big Prediction About Arshdeep Singh’s Future In Team India

Punjab Kings’ seamer Arshdeep Singh has impressed everyone with his brilliant death bowling skills, including former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who has even predicted that the 23-year-old will soon be seen in the national colours.

A testament to Arshdeep’s talent and potential is that he was one of the only two players to be retained by Punjab. The closest he’s come to the Indian team was when he was selected as a net bowler for the Sri Lanka tour last year. Now, Arshdeep is in talks to get into the squad for the upcoming South Africa T20I series.

Although the left-arm pacer has taken only 3 wickets in 8 matches, he’s conceded runs at 8 runs an over. More noticeably has been his death bowling: Arshdeep has conceded at just 5.66 runs an over at the death, which is the best economy rate for a bowler who has bowled a minimum of 30 balls at the death in IPL 2022. Since IPL 2020, he has an economy rate of 8.63 in death overs, only behind Anrich Nortje and Jasprit Bumrah in the list.

Speaking with Star Sports, Ravi Shastri was effusive in praise for the 23-year-old left-armer’s nerves of steel, and is confident that Arshdeep will soon represent India.
“For someone so young and then to deliver time and time again when the chips are down and the pressure is on him (it’s brilliant to see). Arshdeep is holding on to his nerves brilliantly, he’s doing well in death overs. This shows he’s moving up the ranks very quickly and he could be walking into the Indian team,” he told Star Sports.
His elite death bowling quality and form were on display in the recent game versus the Chennai Super Kings. With 47 runs needed off the last four overs, Arshdeep nailed his yorkers and slower variations giving away just 14 runs in two overs to set up Punjab’s win.
Kagiso Rabada lauded Arshdeep Singh for his brilliant almost-unhittable death bowling vs CSK:
“I think Arsh has been the best death bowler in this comp. That’s what the stats say. He’s a youngster coming in. He’s got a lot of drive, a lot of ambition and he’s got talent as well. And he’s just a good bloke. So it’s nice to have him around. I’ve always bowled at the death as well so I know I’m going to bowl at the death but Arsh has just been magnificent and been leading the way in that discipline.”
