Former India head coach Ravi Shastri is confident that either KL Rahul or Jos Buttler will end with the Orange Cap for IPL 2022. At the moment, it’s looking like Buttler, with the form he’s in, will run away with the Orange Cap, but Rahul is not far behind either.

Jos Buttler has been in his best IPL form in IPL 2022. In 7 innings so far for Rajasthan Royals, the Englishman has plundered 491 runs at an average of 81 and strike rate of 161. He’s smashed 3 centuries already along with a couple of fifties; only once he’s been dismissed for less than 30 runs.

KL Rahul, too, is having a good time with the bat in IPL 2022, leading Lucknow Super Giants from the front. In 8 matches, he’s amassed 368 runs at an average of 61, striking at 147. Rahul has slammed two centuries – both versus Mumbai Indians – and one fifty.

Ravi Shastri lauded both KL Rahul and Jos Buttler for their elite batsmanship. The reason for picking these two to finish as the highest run-scorer, Shastri explained, is that both open the batting and are in form; hence, they have got the best chance to take away the Orange Cap in IPL 2022.

“He’s got a solid all-round game, the technique is good he’s got all the shots, great temperament, and good presence of mind. With the responsibility of leading a new franchise is getting the best out of him. You asked me at the start of the season, Orange Cap, I said KL Rahul because the openers have the best chance,” Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.

“So, it will be between him and (Jos) Buttler. If you are an opening batsman who’s firing then your franchise is going to do well in the IPL because those are not the players at the back who come and do the damage. If you get an opener who’s firing then it’s half the job done already,” he added.
