An ugly controversy erupted in the final over of the game last night between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, when DC captain Rishabh Pant asked batters Rovmen Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to walk off the field over a no-ball decision. Not just this, Pant sent coach Pravin Amre to protest the umpire’s decision not to award a no-ball.

The incident took place in the final over, when 36 runs were needed from the last 6 balls, Obed McCoy was slammed for three consecutive sixes by Rovmen Powell. However, the controversy happened on the third ball.

1st ever declaration in T20 by Rishabh Pant 🤣

The third ball however appeared to be above the waist of the batter but the umpires did not call it a no-ball. The same didn’t go down well with the captain of Delhi Capitals – Rishabh Pant, who was angry with the decision taken by the umpire.  Eventually, things got settled between both the teams but Powell couldn’t connect the remaining 3 balls and DC lost the game by 15 balls.

Meanwhile, after the match, during the post-match conference, Rishabh Pant talked about the ugly controversy. Pant expressed his disappointment over the incident and revealed how everyone was frustrated in the dug-out. He said:

“I think they were bowling well throughout the game but in the end Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball.”

He added:

“Obviously it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right, it happened in the heat of the moment. It was the fault from both sides and it is disappointing as we have seen some good umpiring in the tournament. It is disappointing to go so close especially when the other team has scored 200+. I think we could have bowled much better. I can tell the guys to keep their chin up and prepare for the next one.”
