Rohit Sharma Paid A Huge Fine After The First Match: Mumbai Indians’ campaign in the ongoing IPL 2022 kicked off with a disappointing note as they lost their opening game against Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium on Sunday. Delhi Capitals’ Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel turned unlikely heroes to help their team chase down the target of 178 runs.

Lalit Yadav (48) and Axar Patel (38), lifted Delhi from 104-5 with an unbeaten stand of 75 to win with 10 balls to spare. Shardul Thakur also played a fiery knock to help his team win their first game by 4 wickets.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma paid a huge fine in their opening game of the IPL 2022. Yes, you read that right. Rohit Sharma, who is yet to lead Mumbai Indians to a win in an IPL opener, received a ₹12 lakh fine following the loss over the dull-witted over-rate. IPL in an official statement said:

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27,”

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs.”

Later after the match, during the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma talked about the performance of his team and their defeat in the first match. Talking about it he said:

“I thought it was a good score. It didn’t look like a pitch where you can get 170+ at the start but we played in the middle and finished well. Just didn’t bowl according to our plans,”

He added: “We want to win every game. Things didn’t go according to plan but that can happen. Just need to stay close as a group and take the learnings. Disappointed with the loss but not the end.”
