Sachin Tendulkar Wrote A Special Tweet For Shashank Singh: The fielding standards over the years have only grown in the IPL. While earlier it was the overseas players who took stunning catches at the boundary lines, Indian players now, and even the youngsters, have in recent years made some terrific takes.
With the increase in fitness levels and awareness of the game, the need to save every boundary and every run, these catches could prove to be really crucial in the final outcome of the game.
On Saturday in the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, young Shashank Singh took one such ripper of a catch at the boundary line of KKR opener Ajinkya Rahane off the bowling of Umran Malik.
A short ball outside off stump from Malik, Rahane uppercut it and, with the help of Malik’s pace, it looked like the ball is going to go over the fence for a six over deep point boundary.
However, Shashank Singh never let the ball out of his sight. He ran a few steps towards his right and took out both his stretched hands to grab the ball just before it was about to go past the boundary. Shashank tumbled down but managed to keep the ball in his hands. In celebration, he signalled that it was out and ran towards the bowler and other SRH fielders.
The on-field umpires wanted to check the catch again with the third umpire, who found out that although Shashank went down on the ground close to the boundary line he was inches away from it and took a clean catch and Rahane had to take the walk back.
Earlier only in that over, Shashank had taken another brilliant catch, that of Nitish Rana, this time moving forward.
So good was Shashank’s catch and how calm he was when the ball was travelling in the air, that legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to laud the 30-year-old for his superb take.
“Catching on the boundary line keeps getting better and better. Outstanding catch by @shashank2191!” Tendulkar tweeted.
