Former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar took a hilarious dig at the Punjab Kings franchise. He compared them with Pakistan Super League’s Lahore Qalandars team and said that “even they never win” until earlier this season.
Speaking with website Sportskeeda, Shoaib Akhtar was asked which is the favourite IPL team in Pakistan. Not CSK, not Mumbai Indians, but, the Rawalpindi Express said, it’s Punjab Kings who have the biggest support in Pakistan.
He explained that since the Kings are based in Punjab they have got a huge fan following in Pakistan, adding that there is another Punjab-based team in the PSL, Lahore Qalandars, and that’s why people support it PBKS heavily. However, he trolled them by saying that the Qalandars also didn’t win the title like Kings. Only earlier this year, the Qalandars, led by fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, ended their title drought by winning their maiden PSL trophy in 7 seasons.
“Our favourite team is Punjab because we even have a team from Punjab in the PSL, which is the Lahore Qalandars, and even they too, never win. Finally, this year they won the final. So, I hope that like Punjab from our side, even Punjab from your side should do something. They have got off to a good start, but let’s see what they do next,” Akhtar told Sportskeeda.
Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings have started off IPL 2022 in stunning fashion, chasing down 206 against RCB with an over to spare. Can they too, like their PSL counterparts, end their title drought this year?
