IPL 2022: Shubman Gill Gave A Cracking Reply To His Trolls On Twitter

Gujarat Titans’ opener Shubman Gill registered his third half-century of the ongoing 2022 season of the Indian Premier League as Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 62 runs on Tuesday.

After Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first, the young opener scored an unbeaten 63 off 49 deliveries to anchor the Gujarat Titans’ innings. Gill carried his bat, playing an unbeaten knock of 63 runs, when the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, and Matthew Wade failed to get going. He smashed only 7 boundaries during his knock, which saw him run hard between the wickets on Wednesday at the MCA Stadium.

Gill’s knock helped GT to post a total of 144/4. He was named player of the match after the Super Giants were bowled out for 82 runs.

However, the cricketer was criticized for his slow knock on social media. Trolls on social media were quick to judge Gill’s knock and even called it ‘selfish’. Shubman Gill took to social media after his match-winning knock and shut down his critics.

In his Tweet, Gill came up with only 2 emojis – one of a tortoise and the other one of a hare in order to convey his message – ‘slow and steady wins the race’.

It has to be noted that Shubman Gill was the highest scorer of the game last night. While all the other batters (of both the teams) struggled to score runs on the tricky pitch, Shubman on the other hand, kept his calm and played a crucial knock. His knock proved to be decisive in a low-scoring match.

Later, after the game, Shubman Gill had expressed his thoughts on his match-winning knock. Gill explained how LSG bowlers’ reluctance to bowl it full on the MCA Stadium helped GT to keep the scoreboard ticking. He said:

“Always pleasing when you’re there till the end and finish the game for your team. I didn’t expect the ball to seam as much at the start. It was nipping around, and then I expected the spinners to get some turn. I think they didn’t bowl up much. Had Krunal pitched it up, it would have been tougher. It helped us turn the singles over”

Meanwhile, with 18 points in its name, so far, Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs. GT squad will be next seen in action in a game against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
