IPL 2022: Shubman Gill Is Getting Mercilessly Trolled On Twitter

Shubman Gill was at the receiving end of the wrath of fans following his fourth consecutive batting failure in the IPL 2022 after he had put up a couple of brilliant performances early in the season.

Against Kolkata Knight Riders, on Saturday afternoon, Gill started off his innings with a classy flick shot boundary off Umesh Yadav. However, he departed on the first ball of the next over, bowled by Tim Southee.

It was, in fact, the least threatening ball that could have dismissed Shubman Gill: an innocuous delivery going down the leg-side which would have been called a wide had Gill not tried to glance it down the leg-side aiming for a boundary. He got a thin inside edge to it and wicket-keeper Sam Billings took a good diving catch.

The Titans opener looked in disbelief at his dismissal in such a way while Southee was chuffed to get an early lucky breakthrough.

His recent form in the past few games is in contrast to what it had been at the start of the season. Although he started off with a duck in the first match, Gill showed his class with two jaw-dropping knocks: 84 off 46 balls vs Delhi Capitals followed by 96 off 59 vs Punjab Kings and set himself up for a breakthrough IPL season that would put him in the reckoning for Indiaโ€™s white-ball teams.

However, that soon fizzled out as he registered scores of 7, 13, 0, and now 7. The other young openers challenging Gill for a spot in the T20I eleven โ€“ the likes of Ishan Kishan and Ruturak Gaiwad too have been highly inconsistent this season so far, and while Prithvi Shaw has got starts in most of his games, he hasnโ€™t been able to build a big knock on those.

Netizens on Twitter trolled the 22-year-old Gujarat Titans opener heavily after his another disappointing dismissal. Fans have expected better consistency from Gill after those two breath-taking innings early in the season.
