Mumbai Indians’ Tilak Varma stole the show with the bat against Rajasthan Royals in match number 9 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. The 19-year-old young talent smashed a stunning 28-ball fifty in just his second match in IPL, becoming the youngest player to score a half-century for the Mumbai Indians
The Sanju Samson-led side was asked to bat first after Rohit Sharma of MI won the toss. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals posted a target of 194 runs on the scoreboard, all thanks to the terrific knock of Jos Buttler, who scored a century off 66 balls and he made sure to post a competitive target on the scoreboard.
Buttler was well-supported by the RR captain Sanju Samson and also by Shimron Hetmyer in the end. The Royals looked like a settled unit against Mumbai Indians in the first innings.
Coming out to chase the target, Mumbai kicked off to the worst possible start as they lost the big wicket of Rohit Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh, early in the innings. However, Ishan Kishan formed a brilliant partnership with Tilak Varma. Kishan continued his good run of form scoring 54 with 5 fours and 1 four as he added 81 runs with Tilak.
Tilak impressed one and all with his aggressive hitting as he played a terrific knock of 61 runs in 33 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours before he was dismissed by the senior bowler Ravichandran Ashwin with perfect off-spinning delivery.
Though, Mumbai Indians team was defeated by Rajasthan Royals, this young gun of MI won everyone’s heart with his talent.
