IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Can Replace Faf du Plessis As RCB Captain

Everyone is getting set for the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025. There will be many changes in the squad composition and players will be changing franchises. One such team who will be in attention is Royal Challengers Bangalore and their captain. Faf du Plessis is now 40 years old. So, ahead of the mega auction, RCB will be looking for an Indian captain who can replace Faf in that position. Faf took over the captaincy duties ahead of IPL 2022, after Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy. Under du Plessis, RCB have qualified for the playoffs in all three seasons. In this article, we will take a look at the players who can replace Faf du Plessis as captain in the RCB team.

IPL 2023: 3 Players Who Can Replace Faf du Plessis As RCB Captain

#3 KL Rahul

Stylish opening batter and Lucknow Super Giants captain, KL Rahul, is set to leave the franchise ahead of IPL 2025. As per reports, he will move to Royal Challengers Bangalore and take over as the captain from Faf du Plessis. Rahul was made the captain of LSG ahead of IPL 2022. That was the first season in the IPL for LSG. He captained the team from IPL 2022 to IPL 2024. However, he has had a fallout with the owner Sanjeev Goenka, after Goenka had an intense talk with Rahul on the field after LSG’s loss during IPL 2024. Rahul is a Bengaluru native and he has also played for RCB earlier. Moreover, the Karnataka man has an ample experience of leading the side with his experience in Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and the Indian Cricket Team. RCB will have a significant boost after his addition to the team ahead of IPL 2025.

#2 Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been a legendary captain in the IPL. He has led India to five IPL titles and recently led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title. He has announced his retirement from T20Is. So, he can now focus in the IPL in the shortest format of the game. Moreover, his relationship with Mumbai Indians is at all time lowest. Ahead of IPL 2024, MI sacked Rohit Sharma from captaincy without any proper discussion and appointed Hardik Pandya as the captain. As per reports, Sharma had a fallout with the MI owners who are sure to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. RCB are sure to have a go to get such a successful captain in the team and pair Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma.

#3 Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is currently the best bowler across formats. He has been a mainstay for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and recently helped India win the T20 World Cup with his stellar bowling displays. After Pandya was appointed as the captain, all was not okay between MI and Bumrah. Bumrah being a senior player in the team would have expected the captaincy after Rohit Sharma. As per reports, he will be released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. RCB would want to sign him to strengthen their bowling and also see him as a captaincy candidate. He has been a captain of the Indian test team and serves as the vice-captain when Rohit Sharma leads the team.
