IPL 2023: 3 Young Players Who Will Be Stars Of The Season

IPL 2023: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been the breeding ground of young, uncapped players. Over the past 15 seasons, several unknown talents in the country have been unearthed in the IPL and their potential realised amid the public eye.

The same was the scenario last season as well. In fact, last season shot up perhaps the most number of young Indian pacers and made them sensations in the eyes of the fans, so much so that a few of them are now in the national reckoning.

In this article, we look at 3 such youngsters who did well in IPL 2022 and will attract eyeballs in IPL 2023:

Mohsin Khan will be Lucknow’s biggest weapon on the field in IPL 2023.

There were not many fans who’d heard about Mohsin Khan before the IPL 2022; the fact he didn’t start the season for Lucknow Super Giants testifies to it. However, by the end of the tournament, not only now fans learned about his talent and potential, but they also championed him to be fast-tracked into the Indian team given that he’s a tall left-arm pacer, who can swing the ball but mostly is a hit-the-deck seamer.

Mohsin picked up 14 wickets in 9 matches this season with a best of 4/16. Strikingly, his economy of 5.96 was amongst the best in the tournament as batters found it really tough to get boundaries off his length and hard-length deliveries. Expectations are for 24-year-old Mohsin to showcase similar performances next season. He will be one of the most watched players in IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 will see the rise and rise of Tristan Stubbs

Tristan Stubbs wasn’t exactly a known commodity when he was brought in mid-stage of the tournament by Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Tymal Mills; Stubbs had gone unsold in the mega-auction.

However, MI had known his talents and roped him as a replacement. He managed only 2 runs in 2 matches, but recognition by a franchise like Mumbai made South Africa give him a T20I debut. What has transpired so far is only stunning: 5 T20I innings, Stubbs has scored 119 runs at an average of 30, and a belligerent strike rate of 212! He’s been so impressive in the finishing role that South Africa have added Stubbs to their T20 World Cup squad.

The sky is the limit for the Mumbai Indians youngster and next season we would be seeing him as a hard-hitting well-known T20 batsman.

Arshdeep Singh is going to be one of the biggest stars of IPL 2023

There perhaps hasn’t been a quicker, impressive upsurge of an Indian seamer than Arshdeep Singh’s since Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep had shown his smarts while bowling last season for Punjab Kings, who retained him for 4 crore. Arshdeep repaid the faith: he was the second-best death bowler in IPL 2022 after only Bumrah.

Arshdeep got a call-up to the Indian team and bowled a first over maiden on debut vs England’s Jason Roy. He then bagged the Player of the Series award against West Indies and bowled two terrific death overs in the Asia Cup, albeit in losses. This got him into India’s T20 World Cup squad.

He recently picked 5 wickets in two T20I against South Africa with the new ball, swinging the ball both ways and even using the short ball to good effect. Punjab Kings will be elated with the success of the 23-year-old youngster with Team India and everyone is eager to see him back in the IPL.
