IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Big Players CSK Can Release

In what was a controversy-filled IPL 2022 season for Chennai Super Kings, the 4-time IPL champions failed to reach the playoffs for only the second time in their history. Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy reign lasted only 8 matches before MS Dhoni took back the duties.

CSK finished with only 4 wins in 14 matches, 9th at the points table, ahead of the Mumbai Indians only on net run rate.

The Chennai-based franchise will look to bounce back – like they always had – come the IPL 2023. For that, they will have to build the squad at the auction, which will take place in mid-December.

Before that, CSK are expected to release a number of players.

Here are 3 big-name players which CSK might release ahead of IPL 2023 auction:

Ravindra Jadeja

You might not see Ravindra Jadeja in yellow from next season; you may even see him raising bidding wars at the auction table. There is a real possibility that Jadeja and CSK could part ways before the auction. And this has everything to do with the fact that Jadeja was removed as the captain mid-season – after Dhoni himself had handed him the reins at the start of the season.

Jadeja left the tournament after 10 matches due to an injury, and it has been reported that since then, there has been no contact between the two parties. Jadeja, who was retained for 16 crores, also deleted most of the photos with CSK from his Instagram, and wasn’t present in the video CSK posted to wish on MS Dhoni’s birthday!

There is a good chance that Jadeja might force CSK to either trade him to another franchise or release him to set the auction on fire.

Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan was brought by CSK for 3.6 crore with a lot of hopes to give them assurance in the death overs as Dwayne Bravo is ageing and had retired from international cricket. However, Jordan flattered to deceive: in 4 matches he picked only 2 wickets and leaked at more than 10 runs an over; his economy rose to 14.27 in the death overs.

Adam Milne

Adam Milne is renowned for his high pace and has been shown interest by the likes of MI and CSK. However, the New Zealand quick is injured frequently. CSK had roped him in for 1.9 crore, but he got injured in his first match of the season itself and was ruled out of the tournament.

He also missed the following Hundred tournament due to an injury, and hasn’t played a single competitive match after the IPL 2022. CSK suffered because of injury absentees last season, and might not want to risk their bowling attack further.
