The IPL 2023 mini-auction is set for December 23 in Kochi. Last time it was a meg-auction with all the squads revamped as two new franchises entered the tournament.
The other important date before the auction is November 15, which is the last date for all 10 franchises to announce their list of retained and released players. The trading window is still open and activity has been happening over the last couple of days, but nothing has been confirmed yet by the franchises.
Meanwhile, for the IPL 2023 mini-auction, all the teams will have an extra 5 crore in their purse to spend in the auction – taking the total of 95 crores from 90 crore – in addition to the leftover money from the last mega-auction.
Here is the list of the franchises and their money leftover from the previous auction which they will carry to the IPL 2023 mini-auction:
- Punjab Kings had the largest purse left over: INR 3.45 crore (US $425,000) after the last auction
- Chennai Super Kings have INR 2.95 crore (US $358,000) remaining
- Royal Challengers Bangalore has INR 1.55 crore (US $188,000)
- Rajasthan Royals – INR 0.95 crore (US $115,000)
- Kolkata Knight Riders – INR 0.45 crore (US $55,000)
- Defending champions Gujarat Titans have left with INR 0.15 crore (US $18,000)
- Three teams – Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals – have INR 0.10 crore (approx. US $12,000) each left after the mega-auction.
- Lucknow Super Giants had used up their entire purse in the last auction
So, for the auction, the purse of the franchises will be increased after they release the players, or trade them away for money.
It has been reported by Cricbuzz that some of the big players are likely to be released by the franchises. Among those, Punjab skipper Mayank Agarwal and SRH captain Kane Williamson are the biggest of the names, with others including Odean Smith, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Mavi, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, and KS Bharat.
