IPL 2023

The IPL 2023 will start on March 31st, with the tournament opener seeing the defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.

The IPL 2023 will run until May 28, and the final is also scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad.

The IPL had extended to 10 teams in 2022 with Gujarat Titans, one of the two news franchises, winning the trophy under Hardik Pandya‘s captaincy.

The major exciting news for the fans is that the IPL returns to its traditional home-and-away format in India for the first time since 2019.

The past three seasons have been played out in India and in the UAE amid the threats of the pandemic, with the 2021 season even disrupted mid-way. Last year, the IPL was organized in Mumbai and Pune.

Now, however, the fans can witness the players from up close in their home cities as the teams play 7 home and 7 away matches in the league stage.

IPL 2023 format:

The teams are divided into two groups: Group A has MI, KKR, RR, DC, and LSG, while Group B has CSK, RCB, GT, PBKS, and SRH. Each team will play the five teams of the other group twice and the other four from their own group once, making it 14 league games per team.

The league phase comprises 70 matches across 52 days from March 31 to May 21, spanning 12 cities, and will feature 18 double-headers

IPL 2023 venues:

The IPL 2023 will be played across 12 cities: in addition to the 10 regular venues – Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Mohali – some matches this season will also be played in Guwahati (RR’s second home), and Dharamsala (Punjab’s second home).

RR will play their first two home matches in Guwahati and the remaining five in Jaipur, while PBKS will play their first five home matches in Mohali and their last two home games in Dharamsala.

The two most successful IPL teams – Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings – will meet twice, on April 8 and May 6, their clashes being built up as the El Clásico of the IPL. The second of those fixtures between MI and CSK will be the 1000th IPL match in the history.

IPL 2023 Telecast and live-streaming details:

For the first time in its history, the IPL has two different companies broadcasting the IPL in India.

Disney Star retained its Indian sub-continent TV rights for IPL 2023 for a hefty fee of Rs 23,575 crores.

The IPL 2023 matches will be aired live on the Star Sports Network in different languages such as Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

For the digital rights, Viacom18 forked out INR 23,578.

JioCinema will live-stream IPL 2023 (free) in 4k resolution. So fans can watch the IPL 2023 for free on JioCinema on their mobile, laptop, and other digital devices.
