IPL 2023: The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to start on March 31 with a game between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. The preparations for the much-awaited season have already kickstarted with several players joining their respective teams ahead of the tournament.

Meanwhile, four New Zealand cricket players, including Kane Williamson and Tim Southee, have been given permission by the country’s cricket board to join their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) teams without participating in the upcoming white0ball series against Sri Lanka at home.

Kane Williamson who plays for Gujarat Titans, Tim Southee who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings’ players Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner will be released after the second and final Test match against Sri Lanka, which will take place on Friday, to join their respective teams early.

Apart from these four players, three more Kiwi players, namely Finn Allen (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Lockie Ferguson (KKR), and Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad) will also be released from the ODI squad after the first match scheduled to be played in Auckland on March 25th.

These three players will be replaced by Mark Chapman, Ben Lister and Henry Nicholls in the ODI squad for the second ODI to be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on March 28.

The same was confirmed by the Black Caps coach Gary Stead, who speaking on the NZC website, said: “It’s always exciting as a coach to have new players in the environment and to have players putting their hands up to be selected again in a particular format,

“We are set to play 16 white ball matches between now and the start of May so there will be a number of chances for players to test themselves in familiar and unfamiliar conditions,” he said about NZ’s plans ahead of the ODI World Cup in India in October-November.
