The India Premier Leauuet (IPL 2023) auction is still a few months away, but the franchises have already begun formalising their plans for the auction. Before the auction, the franchises will get an opportunity to trade in or out players in the IPL 2023 trade window.
It is believed that the IPL 2023 auction will be held in mid-December, and the trading window will be opened in mid-November.
In the past, franchises have made some good trades in – such as MI roping in de Kock and Boult, and Dehli trading in Dhawan and Ashwin. Also, there have been instances when franchises straight up denied trading away their players when another team came asking for a trade.
IPL 2023 Trading Window: Here we look at the 5 times when franchises refused to trade away their players

Ravindra Jadeja, CSK
There had been big rumours about Ravindra Jadeja having decided to part ways with the Chennai Super Kings in the months after the IPL 2022, and of differences between the former CSK skipper and the franchise.
However, according to reports, when multiple franchises approach CSK inquiring about Jadeja’s availability for a trade, CSK rejected all offers before the IPL 2013 trading window. Jadeja captained CSK for the first time in his career, but after 5 losses in 7 matches, Dhoni was handed the captaincy duties back.
Ravindra Jadeja’s season ended prematurely with 10 matches due to injury and he left the group much before the season concluded. Since then, it’s believed that the all-rounder hasn’t contacted the franchise, deleted most of his Instagram photos with CSK, and wasn’t present in CSK’s videos.
While CSK may have refused trading out Ravindra Jadeja, we have to wait and see whether the all-rounder continues with the franchise or goes in the auction pool.
Rashid Khan, SRH
This is not at all a surprising one. When Rashid Khan wasn’t yet a global T20 superstar, SRH had bought him in the auction. After that, Mumbai Indians made an offer to SRH for the Afghanistan spinner who was yet to make a mark in T20 cricket. But SRH declined MI’s offer.
Former SRH coach Tom Moody recalled this, saying: “I remember Mumbai Indians, it may have been two years ago, requesting a trade for Rashid Khan. I mean come on! No other franchise had the gumption or bravado to be able to knock on the door and say look we’d like to get a trade for Rashid Khan – that’s like okay, I’m sure you do so, does the rest of the world.”
It will be interesting to see SRH’s strategy in the IPL 2023 trading window.
Rahul Tewatia, Gujarat Titans
Rahul Tewatia had his best IPL season in 2022 when he mage significant contribution to GT’s title winning campaign in the franchise’s debut IPL season. There was no way GT were going to let Tewatia go. Despite this, a few other franchises asked to trade Tewatia – perhaps citing the big purse (9 crore) that GT could release. But the champions didn’t budge and have decided to stick with Tewatia.
R Sai Kishore, Gujarat Titans
Offer for another player which the Titans have received is young Tamil Nadu spinner R Sai Kishore, according to Cricbuzz. Kishore is a renowned name in domestic circuit and picked 6 wickets in 5 IPL 2022 games for GT, including 2 in the final.
With the immense potential of the 25-year-old yet to be unlocked, GT are comfortable with having Kishore in their team and rejected offers for a trade.
Murali Kartik, Pune Warriors India
Former India spinner Murali Kartik got interest from CSK when he was with PWI. However, his PWI skipper Sourav Ganguly didn’t allow the franchise to release him.
“And also, when we came to Pune Warriors, he did not allow me to go to Chennai Super Kings. The year when Ravindra Jadeja went in the transfer window, they asked me, they asked the officials of Pune Warriors, but Dada said ‘No, I won’t allow you’,” Kartik told Sportskeeda.
