On Monday, Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli registered a fine fifty in the ongoing IPL 2023 clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Virat, who is fondly called the ‘run-machine’ started his campaign in IPL 2023 on a stunning note. He played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs to help his side win the season opener by thrashing five-time winners Mumbai Indians.
But he failed to replicate his knock in the second game of the season, which was against Kolkata Knight Riders. In that game, Kohli got the start but he failed to make it big and was dismissed at the score of 21 by Sunil Narine. RCB also suffered a crushing defeat in the game by 81 runs at the hands of KKR.
Virat Kohli Created History

Playing in the ongoing 3rd game of the season for RCB, Virat made a stunning comeback. He formed a brilliant partnership with skipper Faf du Plessis and together they gave a solid start to RCB by registering a fine fifty. He scored 61 runs in 44 balls before Amit Mishra sent him back. His stunning knock was laced with 4 fours and as many sixes.
In the process, Kohli added another feather to his already glorious cap. Kohli has become the first batter in the history of the Indian Premier League to score at least one fifty against 13 different oppositions. Ahead of the ongoing game, Kohli was level with David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Gautam Gambhir on this list. All these players have at least one half-century against 12 different opposition in the IPL. The only difference is, Virat hasn’t scored a fifty against now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
Besides this, he also became the first Indian player to register scores of 50 or 50-plus scores on 50 occasions in the IPL. He now has 46 fifties and 5 centuries in IPL.
