The IPL 2024 season is the 17th edition of the tournament that started in 2008. The IPL has changed world cricket forever, and now new franchise and T20 leagues are popping up in all parts of the world. There hardly seemed to be a month where there isn’t at least one T20 or franchise league going on the planet.
A few legendary players have managed to ride the test of time and endurance by playing in all IPL seasons. It’s incredible that there are still a few players who featured in IPL 2008 and are still active and will play in the IPL 2024 season.
5 Players Who Were Part Of IPL 2008 And Will Play In IPL 2024:

MS Dhoni
Dhoni is the only player who started the IPL 2008 as a captain and is still a captain, although he played under Steve Smith in IPL 2017 for Pune Supergiant and 8 games under Ravindra Jadeja at CSK in IPL 2022 before taking the captaincy back from Jadeja after the collective failure of the team. Dhoni won CSK five IPL titles. Aged 42, MS Dhoni is likely going to play his last IPL season this year.
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli is the only player who has played all 16 seasons for a single IPL franchise – RCB. Kohli is the leading run-scorer in IPL history. However, he couldn’t take RCB to a single IPL title – RCB and Kohli lost three IPL finals.
Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan started his IPL career in 2008 at Delhi Daredevils. He played for Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and has been with Punjab Kings since IPL 2022. He is the captain of Punjab since last year. Dhawan, who won the IPL with SRH in 2016, is the second-leading run-scorer in IPL history.
Dinesh Karthik
Karthik started his IPL career with Delhi before playing for MI, PBKS, RCB, Gujarat Lions, KKR, where he led KKR for a couple of seasons, and has been back at RCB since 2022. The IPL 2024 is the last IPL season for Dinesh Karthik.
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has played for only two franchises in his IPL career – Deccan Chargers (2008 to 2010) and Mumbai Indians (from 2011). He was given the MI captaincy in 2013 and led them to five IPL trophies. He had won the IPL 2009 title with Deccan. Rohit now, though, is not the MI captain anymore as Hardik Pandya has gotten the job.
