IPL 2024: KL Rahul's IPL Participation In Danger After LSG Captain Sent To London

Team India and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are now given a bigger scare as KL Rahul has flown to London for treatment on his right quadriceps, the injury that has kept him out from the last three Tests against England.

KL Rahul, who kept wicket in the Test series in South Africa, scored 86 and 22 in Hyderabad Test, batting at number 4 in the absence of Virat Kohli. However, Rahul has since then missed the three Tests, all of which India won though, due to a right quadriceps injury. KL Rahul had surgery on the same part last year, and now it is believed that the injury has flared up again.

Even though Rahul was deemed “90 percent fit” ahead of the third Test, not only did he miss the Rajkot and Ranchi Tests, but he also now has been sent to London for further assessment and treatment. The BCCI medical team at the NCA in Bangalore had been treating him, but now it has come to it that he needs the attention of the specialists who performed the surgery last year.

A report in Cricbuzz said, “It is understood that there is still some stiffness and given his importance to the side and the dual roles he fulfills for the team, the BCCI, selectors, and team management are reluctant to take any risks with him.”

He is all but certain to miss the fifth Test in Dharamsala. Also, if further treatment is required and he fails to recover, he could partially miss the IPL 2024 or even entirely.

That would be a huge blow to the Lucknow Super Giants, who were reportedly planning to use him in the middle-order as he wanted to make a case to be picked in India’s T20 World Cup team. He captained LSG to playoffs in the last two seasons, but they couldn’t reach the final. Despite that, LSG replaced Andy Flower with Australian Justin Langer as the head coach.

Recently, Mohammed Shami underwent surgery on his injured ankle in London and the Gujarat Titans fast bowler has been ruled out from the IPL and the T20 World Cup.
